Creating The Out-Of-The Ordinary by Simone Milasas

Oct 07, 2018

Do you find yourself spending more time daydreaming about the extraordinary business you desire rather than actually creating it?

If you walk into the kitchen with visions of making a great meal, two-minute noodles aren’t going to cut it. You need to ask what you’d truly like, what ingredients you need, and what else is required for you to create it.

To have this amazing meal, you may have to learn some new skills, maybe even acquire a cooking utensil or two. Then as you begin to prepare it, keep asking what else you can put into the recipes to make it as great as it can be.

What if this meal was your business? I see a lot of people who start things and then wonder why it doesn’t get created. They dream of gourmet, but end up settling for ordinary snack food. Or maybe they just go hungry.

Do you start out with grand and glorious visions of what you’re going to create only to totally back out of your creations? Maybe you’re someone who knows business can be done totally different.

To have a business that’s truly extraordinary, you have to approach business differently. Here are a few out-of-the-ordinary questions you can begin asking every day to create something different:

What generosity of spirit can I be today?

Most people make business about the money–never make it about the money. It’s easy to say, but to choose to be that way is very different. Paradoxically, it’s also what allows the money to show up with more ease.

Ask what generosity of spirit you can be instead. When you have a generosity of spirit, you’re giving and gifting of yourself. That might simply mean you offer someone ten minutes of your time or take a few moments to acknowledge the people around you.

When you ask the question, you can get a sense of the whole world opening up through your generosity. It’s a way of being and creating in the world that actually comes back to you ten times over.

What contribution can I be here?

Most people want to know what they can get out of a situation. They aren’t looking at what they can put in.

Contribution can be many things. It might be that you go out and make $10,000 more today. Every time you create something more you’re opening the door for everyone else to create something greater as well.

What possibilities are available that you’ve not yet explored? Stay away from concluding what someone or something needs and whether or not you can provide that. There are infinite ways you can contribute. Keep asking the question and notice what shows up.

What would it take to be happy regardless of anything else going on?

Every business has its ups and downs. Instead of hanging on to the bottom line as a barometer for your mood, what if you chose to be happy no matter what?

The notion that happiness is just a choice is definitely different. The thing is, when you choose to be happy, you’re also creating greater possibilities for your business–and the world.

What extraordinary possibilities could you create in this world with choosing to be happy?

To have the out-of-the-ordinary business that’s possible, you have to be willing to do things differently. Practice asking these questions and enjoy the delicious buffet of possibilities that show up.
